LION’S MANE MUSHROOM EXTRACT

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) contains compounds which stimulate the synthesis of Nerve Growth Factor NGF, a protein responsible for boosting neurite outgrowth. These compounds have been identified as erinacines, erinacerins and hericinones. It has also been used for gastritis.

Lions Mane Mushrooms

Lion’s Mane History

Lion’s Mane is a choice edible that grows wild on deciduous trees and is now extensively cultivated on sawdust substrates.

Lion’s Mane Uses

Hericium is an immunomodulator that is useful for many conditions where immunity is compromised. It has also been used for gastritis. Current research suggests that Hericium may have some effect on nerve growth.

CORDYCEPS MUSHROOM EXTRACT

A large body of research has demonstrated that Cordyceps militaris has similar active compounds and activities to Ophiocordyceps sinensis. Today, C. militaris is being cultivated on substrates that are free from any insects. Cordyceps is traditionally used for fatigue and general weakness after a prolonged illness as well as for improved respiratory function.

Cordyceps Mushrooms

Cordyceps Mushroom History

Wild Ophiocordyceps sinensis is a rare and expensive Chinese herb. It consists of a caterpillar and a blade-like mushroom body growing from one end. Its common Chinese name is “Winter worm, summer grass”. Due to the high cost of this herb, the Chinese produce the mycelium of this mushroom in liquid fermentation tanks. This pure mycelium product is primarily known as Cs-4. The authenticity of Cordyceps mycelium cultured from wild Cordyceps is not certain. Multiple cultures have been isolated from the wild Cordyceps, but none have actually produced the mushroom, a normal pre-requisite for determination of identity.

Cordyceps Mushroom Uses

A large body of research has demonstrated that Cordyceps militaris has similar active compounds and activities to C. sinensis. Today, it is being cultivated on substrates free from any insects. It is traditionally used for fatigue, general weakness, improved respiratory function and improved sexual function.

CHAGA MUSHROOM* EXTRACT

*Commonly referred to as a mushroom, chaga is actually a hard sterile conk that is a canker disease on birch trees. Birch trees contain precursor compounds such as the triterpenoid betulin. Chaga draws betulin and other precursors directly from the birch tree and turns them into inotodiol, trametenolic acid and betulinic acid. Inotodiol has shown the strongest activity according to research.

Chaga Mushroom

Chaga History

Wild Chaga grows naturally in the vast forests of Russia, northern China and northern climatic zones in general where birch make up the primary tree species. *Even though Chaga is commonly referred to as a mushroom, it is actually a sterile conk, a hardened mass of wood and mycelium with an amorphous shape and dark pigmented outer layer. It has been estimated that the chaga conk is approximately 10% mycelium. A tree pathogen known as a canker, Chaga slowly causes birch trees to decay and die. For hundreds of years Chaga has been wildcrafted and utilized by the people of northern Europe and Russia.

Chaga Uses

Birch trees contain precursor compounds such as the triterpenoid betulin. Chaga draws betulin and other precursors directly from the birch tree and turns them into inotodiol, trametenolic acid and betulinic acid. Chaga needs the tree-bound precursors to synthesize the triterpenoids for which it is famous. Chaga is traditionally used for stomach problems and immunity issues.

REISHI MUSHROOM EXTRACT

Nammex Reishi mushroom is processed by hot water extraction into a fine powder suitable for encapsulation or beverages. Our higher value extract is also extracted with alcohol.

Reishi Mushrooms

Reishi Mushroom History

Reishi mushroom has been revered in China for thousands of years. It is depicted in many Chinese works of art and is utilized in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Today it is widely cultivated using a method of wood log cultivation in shade houses.

Reishi Mushroom Uses

Scientific research into the compounds responsible for Reishi mushroom activity began in the 1970’s in China and Japan. Scientists discovered highly active beta-(1>3)-glucans with the ability to potentiate innate immunity by activating immune cells. Also discovered were secondary metabolites called triterpenoids which were present in significant amounts and sets Reishi apart from all the other medicinal mushrooms.
